Aline Fournier DO
If you have treated headaches, sinusitis, shoulder, elbow, and back pain in your practice and been frustrated with the results - this workshop will teach you how to use Mesotherapy to complement and/or replace your present treatment methodologies. You will be able to return to your practice and apply it immediately and see the results.
In this workshop you will learn:
Swift techniques 1) to assess your patient's true problem areas, 2) the basics of Mesotherapy for therapy, - including different needling techniques and different injection solutions to address the different lesions, 3) to identify which conditions will in fact respond to Mesotherapy.
Dr. Fournier graduated from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1990, an internship at Hillside Hospital San Diego, then a 3 year fellowship with Dr. William Kubitscheck in Prolotherapy. She has been in solo practice in Escondido, CA. since 1994 and is Board certified in Family Practice Medicine and Board Certified in Neuromuscular Medicine/OMM. Over the last 50 years there has been an immense increase both in the use of synthetic chemicals and in exposure to chemical pollutants: this is unparalleled in the history of man. The increased exposure presents the human body with enormous problems of increase in the Total Body Burden of Toxics and ongoing increase demand on detoxification and excretion of the pollutants that they are exposed to. There is a great need to understand the hormesis and chronic low level exposure of environmental and food pollutants on human health.
The public is increasingly concerned about potential environmental health hazards and often want answers to very concrete questions, such as: is the water safe to drink? Could my miscarriage be due to my work environment? Are pesticides used on fruit harmful? What is the benefit of eating organic food? Patients ask their physicians these questions because they trust them and value their advice. Unfortunately, physicians often lack sufficient scientific knowledge and training with respect to environmental risks and health.
This program has been designed for primary care providers, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and allergy technicians who participate in the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of chemical sensitivity in many chronically ill patients. Practitioners will leave knowing how to recognize the role of environmental factors, food and nutritional deficiencies in the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of chronic illnesses in their patients. Once the Total Body Burden is identified in the earlier stage of the disease process and if eliminated or modified at the earlier stage molecular dysfunction can be reversed and end stage disease can be prevented. Allergic rhinitis plays a major role in the lives of millions of Americans. Primary care physicians will see many patients with this disease or diseases that mimic it. Physicians commonly prescribe medications for allergic rhinitis without knowing the inciting antigen or antigens. Allergy testing can complete the picture for the physician and can play a role in the treatment strategies used to combat this disease. Many physicians do not receive this training in residency, and allergy testing can be somewhat of a mystery. Allergy testing plays a key role in immunotherapy, which is a viable alternative to medical management. Skin prick testing remains the most used test because of its ease of use, and its rapid results. It remains a great screening tool for allergic disease. Intradermal testing is slightly more invasive and does not yield much more useful information. In contrast, intradermal dilutional testing and modified quantitative testing are useful when a screening test is positive because they yield more information for starting doses of immunotherapy. RAST is also an integral part of allergy testing when contraindications to skin/dermal testing exist. There are still questions to be answered.
Treatment for allergies is big business! In 2005, roughly 22 million Americans spent $11 billion on doctors' bills, prescription drugs, and other medical care to relieve allergy symptoms, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Visits to doctors and hospitals accounted for $4 billion. The remaining roughly $7 billion was spent mostly on prescription drugs. Much of that expenditure could have been avoided if people had better access to effective immunotherapy.
This program has been designed for primary care providers, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and allergy technicians who participate in the treatment allergic rhinitis. You and your allergy staff will learn with hands-on training the most effective diagnostic & immunotherapy modalities currently available for handling allergy problems found in all practices! Use these techniques next week!
OBJECTIVES:
Upon the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- On physical examination, recognize signs of allergies and sensitivities in various body systems.
-
Prescribe practical strategies to help patients in controlling environmental exposures. Articulate an understanding of the basic immunology involved in inhalant immunotherapy.
-
Articulate how to prevent, recognize and treat an adverse or anaphylactic reaction.
Describe how to confirm clinical suspicions and determine the levels of sensitivity with quantitative intradermal testing for specific allergens.
- Set up an allergy treatment plan and demonstrate how to prepare a patient’s antigen vial(s) for immunotherapy.
-
Discuss how to manage common difficulties in the administration of immunotherapy
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Hal Blatman MD and AHMA
AHMA member and Past-President Hal S. Blatman, MD is the founder and medical director of the Blatman Pain Clinic, and a nationally recognized specialist in treating myofascial pain. He is board certified in both Pain Management and Occupational and Environmental Medicine. After receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1980, Dr. Blatman completed two years of training in orthopedic surgery. He later studied ergonomics during his residency in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. For several years, Dr. Blatman practiced family medicine while managing a chain of urgent care facilities.
