The American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA) and the International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM) are tremendously pleased to introduce Alice Lee-Bloem MD at our coming conference in Nashville, TN. Visit www.integrativemedicineconference.com for details.
Alice Lee-Bloem, MD, ABIHM http://holisticpsychiatrist.com/ is a holistic and integrative psychiatrist who integrates at least three fields of study: allopathic psychiatry, orthomolecular psychiatry, and energy medicine. Each field has its history of supporting scientific and empirical evidence: biochemistry, neuroanatomy, nutrition, quantum physics, and Eastern medicine.
She graduated from the University of Maryland in adult psychiatry, spending a whole year concentrating on the treatment of eating disorders. Then she trained as a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Her work in orthomolecular psychiatry began when she encountered patients who came to her young, chronically ill despite being heavily medicated, and debilitated by medication side effects. Her search to help these young people find a better way to health led to nutritional supplements, and her clinical experiences with them convinced her that they had powerful healing value. Those patients have been able to come off all medications and move on with their lives.
Summary of her lecture: Mental illness deprives society of the joy and contribution of millions of otherwise functional and productive people. Present treatment approaches have failed to address the multiple factors that affect ultimate outcomes. Practical principles, patterns, and application of “orthomolecular” nutritional approaches and even more tantalizing benefits that might be possible with “energy medicine” in the treatment of mental illness will be discussed. Clinical case studies will highlight the practical application of tools within each field to various diagnostic and age settings, and the recovery process will be explored. Finally, how to avoid problems associated with the integration of these two powerful healing modalities will be discussed.
